Connecting your AINA PTT Accessory to Kodiak-based apps

Posted on 2018-07-11 by AINA Marketing

AINA Wireless’ Bluetooth PTT accessories are compatible with Kodiak a Motorola Company that provides PTT solutions for many mobile phone carriers like AT&T and Verizon in USA, Bell in Canada, Hotmobile in Israel and others.

Kodiak is the market leader of the Carrier-grade PTT applications promising a higher Quality of Service (QoS) as traffic of PTT apps and others can be prioritized which is an advantage during poor network coverage or within saturated networks. Since FirstNet is powered by AT&T, a network where all 50 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia have opted in, the Kodiak application is the default application promoted by AT&T and FirstNet although other PTT applications are FirstNet approved.

The following user guide will show the steps to get the most out of Kodiak-based apps when using a wireless speaker mic.

A  Putting your PTT Voice Responder into Kodiak-mode

  1. Turn on the device by pressing the Power button for more than 3 seconds.
  2. Then, perform a software reset by pressing and holding both arrow buttons (< + >) and both PTT buttons simultaneously, until the LED blinks once in yellow (this step is necessary to remove any previous pairings and settings).
  3. Turn off the device by pressing the Power button for more than 3 seconds.
  4. Activate Kodiak-mode by holding down the Volume-down button, while turning on the device by pressing the Power button for more than 3 seconds. Successful activation is indicated by an orange LED indication instead of the normal power on LED.
  5. Finally, put the Voice Responder into Storage mode, by pressing the Power and Emergency button simultaneously; after the beep, first release the Power button and then the Emergency button. Afterwards, you can turn on your device from the Power button as usual.

(Step 2: Software reset on the left. Step 4: Toggle Kodiak-mode on the right)

B  Pairing your PTT Voice Responder to your iPhone via Bluetooth

  1. Turn on your PTT Voice Responder by holding down the Power button for more than 3 seconds. After it is on, a blinking green light will indicate that the device is ready for pairing.
  2. Turn on your iPhone’s Bluetooth by going to: Settings —> Bluetooth —> Turn on.
  3. Pair your PTT Voice Responder to your iPhone by selecting it from the Devices list. When the device is in Kodiak-mode, it will appear as ‘Kodiak-PTT’ on the Bluetooth menu. Once it has successfully paired, a blue light will begin blinking on your device.
  4. Once you pair your PTT Voice Responder, another Kodiak-PTT will appear on the Bluetooth Devices list. You will have to pair to this one as well, by selecting it, and accepting the Bluetooth Pairing Request.
  5. In your Kodiak application, go to Settings and make sure to enable “Use Bluetooth - Use Bluetooth for PTT calls”.
  6. Once your Voice Responder is connected, go to Settings where you will now find additional features. We recommend to do the following:
    • Enable "Call From Lock Screen": Especially for mobile devices locked with PIN code or fingerprint, this function is necessary to use the Voice Responder without having to unlock the device first
    • Enable "Background Mode": If you are using other apps on the device, you might want to keep the PTT app in the background. If this is not enabled, the PTT app will pop up to the front.
    • Go to "One Touch Action" => "Landing Page..." and select the appropriate option that should be triggered when pressing the PTT button during a locked screen, e.g. "History" will trigger a call to the last contact you communicated to while  "Favorite Contacts" will trigger a call to a favorite contact.

You are ready to use your PTT Voice Responder when you see two ‘Kodiak-PTT’ devices connected on the Bluetooth menu.
